Liaison Officer for Construction (Electrical) Advanced Apprentices

We are an independent Apprenticeship training provider with a direct contract with the Skills Funding Agency and have been supporting people in Apprenticeship training since 1983.

We have a proven track record with higher than national success rates and have Apprentices across seven different programme sectors.

Ofsted inspected us in April 2016 and awarded us with our third ‘Good’ grade 2 status in succession.

The Training Trust is an active member of the London Apprenticeship Information Ambassador Network and promotes Apprenticeship opportunities to the local community.

Job Description:

Location – Office based field working from Gants Hill, Ilford

We are looking for an exceptionally organised caring individual who has good attention to detail and an aim to maintain high quality standards.

Our ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and have a passion to assist young people in their aims to become employed and progress in their chosen career.

You will be able to work within a small team, but also capable of working as an individual while carrying out progress reviews and employer engagement duties.

You must have your own transport to carry out normal duties away from the office.

Knowledge of the Apprenticeship processes and Construction industry would be an advantage, but not essential.


  • To interview, assess and select learners, match learners to selected employers who will provide training, work experience and employment opportunities
  • To provide ongoing learner support at work and during off-the-job training and to help the learner develop a career in achieving recognised industry standard qualifications though a structured review process
  • Managing, planning and recording Learner and Employer visits as per Training Trust procedures
  • Provide information, advice and guidance to learners on an ongoing basis and support them in all aspects of their qualification framework
  • Actively promote the services of Training Trust to local schools, careers services and other external agencies as required. This may involve some evening or weekend working. Time off in lieu is given.
  • To continuously monitor work placements against set Health & Safety and vocational standards and to support and encourage good employment practice amongst employers
  • To carry out risk assessments of learners and ensure that placements have appropriate and current Health & Safety assessments and completed agreements for both new and existing employers
  • Locate potential employers and respond to direct enquiries from interested companies
  • Match learners to existing or new employers and ensure that all workplace inductions are carried out
  • Liaise regularly with Course Tutors to ensure that assessments meet both the needs of the awarding organisation and the learner
  • Work with the Course Tutors to provide support to those learners at risk of leaving the programme early with a view to maintaining the learner in training to ensure completion of their Individual Learning Plan
  • Work with individual learners to assist them in the collection of evidence and construction of portfolios as set out by the Course Tutors
  • Meet with management, SFA staff, Ofsted Inspectors and External Quality Advisers as and when required.
  • Attend Programme Review Team, Staff, Occupational and Operational Review Meetings as and when required
  • It is a company requirement that all staff actively participate in staff development and training, for Assessors this includes the requirement to update their occupational competency to meet awarding body requirements
  • To work at/move to other local premises as required.

MATRIX re-accreditation February 2016.

The assessor spent two days looking at our processes, talking to many of our Apprentices, employers and training centres.

She was very impressed with the support we give to our learners, employers and people who apply to us. We thought that the support we give is normal, but it seems the Quality of the Training Trust is higher than most.

25 years at the Training Trust definitely something to celebrate!

Gina started working for Training Trust in a small office in Hoe Street, Walthamstow as temporary cover. After a month she was offered a permanent position and has worked for Training Trust as our Finance Officer ever since.

Gina Said: “I have enjoyed my time at the Training Trust. I have met some lovely, friendly people. That’s why I’m still working here today”

December 2014

We have had a very mixed year at the Training Trust as we said Goodbye to some of our staff and Hello to new staff.

New Staff

Vicky Day- Administration officer has been with us since last October. Vicky has been a great asset to the smooth running of the Training Trust, we are lucky to have her. 

Kate Moe-Geke- Childcare assessor and Tutor has been with us for a year now Kate has done exceptionally well and built the childcare programme from 25 learners to almost double (48 learners).

Tahmina Ali - Business Admin assessor joined us January. Tahmina is working hard to recruit new employers for our Business admin apprenticeships. (If anyone is interested in taking on an apprentice please contact our office).

Marian Mackay- Electrical Installation Liaison officer joined us in March 2014. Marian has done brilliantly building the Electrical programme; she now has 60 apprentices to support.

Great Achievement

Jordan Flore (Service and Maintenance level 2 and level 3) received “Learner of the Year Award” from Barts Health; He also received a Star award for outstanding achievement. Jordan received his award from Sam Nadarajan (Head of estates Newham Barts) and Trevor Payne (Director of Estates and Facilities at Barts Health)

October 2014

Our fantastic team has worked really hard with local employers and managed to support over fifty applicants into employment across all the trades we are involved with since July 2014.

The Age Grant for employers has been a great incentive in helping small businesses take on an Apprentice.

Three of our previously successful Advanced Apprentices in Plumbing and Electrical have set up their own companies and have used this grant to employ their own Apprentices from us!

June 2014

We are busy recruiting to all our Apprenticeship programmes at the moment and have many vacancies advertised on the Vacancy Matching Service and Career Map.

Our Saturday Advanced Apprenticeship Childcare Groups are proving to be a success and employers are really happy that we have arranged this to suit their needs.

We have had enquiries regarding companies who want to subcontract with us and have been attracted by our high success rates.

Due to unforseen circumstances during our website relaunch, we had neglected to add our Subcontracting Policy. This has now been rectified and can be found on the 'Employers' menu, under 'Services Available'.

February 2014

We have just been successfully reassessed for Investors in People. Well done to all our staff members for supporting the Training Trust in our endeavour for excellence. The national Apprenticeship success rates have just been published. The overall success rates of the Training Trust are 15.6% above National for all regions across the UK. These rates have been on the increase through the last three years at the Training Trust with an average increase of 10% per year. Whereas nationally the success rates have decreased!

Traineeships – 1-3 days per week for voluntary work experience, for up to 6 months. With a view to gaining essential work skills and progress onto an Apprenticeship – Please contact us for more information.

January 2014

The Training Trust is exited about the coming year and is prepared to keep our success rates at an all time high (currently at 90%+).

The priority is to support our learners and employers to the same high standards that are expected and to recruit to all of our current programmes.

New Childcare, Business Administration and Security Installation groups are planned to start in February, so recruitment is already underway.

Construction will be closely followed, please telephone for more details.

The AGE Grant is still available for employers at £1500 for each Apprentice started (subject to criteria) and will end in December this year.

If you are an employer and are looking to take on an Apprentice we have a number of people available and ready for interview. If you feel you are not yet able to take on an Apprentice but would like to offer a work placement to a young person under the new government funded programme ‘Traineeships’, then contact Mark Durham for further information on: 020 8518 1344.

Linda Petts has now moved on to other business ventures and Mark Durham has taken up his new position as Chief Executive.

Mark started off with the Training Trust back in 2004 as a Liaison Officer and assessor supporting Plumbing and Motor Vehicle Apprentices. He was promoted to Quality Improvement Manager and supported the company through the previous successful Ofsted inspections.

Mark is ready to take the Training Trust to the next level and says “We are a fantastic team who really care about our Learners and Employers”.
